Joran van der Sloot was in Peru to take part in the Latin American Poker Tour – which began yesterday – but had to pull out of the tournament due to murder. Unfortunately, it was not his murder, but the murder of another young woman.

You might remember Joran van der Sloot. Almost everyone on this planet is convinced that he murdered Natalee Holloway in 2005. Van der Sloot, who is a Dutch citizen, was arrested twice and once confessed to murdering her while she was on a cruise to Aruba. He later retracted the statement. No charges were ever filed against van der Sloot due to insufficient evidence.

Now, five years to the day after Holloway’s disappearance, 21-year-old Stephany Flores was murdered in a Lima hotel. Shortly before her death, Ms. Flores can be seen with van der Sloot in video footage taken at a Lima casino.

Lima’s police chief General Cesar Guardia says that “homicide personnel are convinced, due to the incriminating evidence we’ve found, that this Dutch citizen is the person responsible for killing Stephany Flores.” Guardia also said that van der Sloot fled the country to Chile the day after the murder.

In addition to being sought by Peruvian police, Interpol has issued an international arrest warrant for van der Sloot. Once he is in custody, you can bet that the Dutch will try to take another shot at him for the Holloway murder as well (Aruba is a territory of the Netherlands).

Back in 2005, van der Sloot first met Holloway while at an Aruba casino for a poker tournament. It seems that playing poker, meeting young women at casinos, and then fleeing after they are murdered are tough habits for van der Sloot to break.
