Private Eye Slot at Roxy Palace Casino
Thursday, January 13th, 2011I don’t usually review slots games here on the Gambling Review news page, opting instead to focus on larger issues affecting the gambling world. When it came to the Private Eye slot, though, I had to take some time to focus on the game.
Roxy Palace Casino has a new game called Private Eye and it is based on those old film noire detective tales I love. Give me a black and white film with Humphrey Bogart narrating while his character smokes in his office, only to be interrupted by a femme fatale played by Lauren Bacall or Ingrid Bergman and I’ll be happy.
The Private Eye slot has that same feeling. The background is the sleuth’s desk, with files and bullets on top. The game features a symbol of the private investigator, wearing a suit, trench coat and fedora hat. It also has a femme fatale, wearing a cocktail dress and seductively glancing over her shoulder. Other symbols include a scotch glass next to a stack of money on the desk, a police lineup, a camera, 1930’s-style car, crime scene with a chalk body outline and more. I can almost hear Bogart’s voice while I play the game.
Private Eye is an online slot that doesn’t have traditional paylines. Instead, there are 243 ways to win. That means you kind of have to take the slot’s word for it when it says you win, or when it says you don’t. Maybe it’s appropriate, though, for this detective slot to be shrouded in mystery.
There are two different second-screen bonuses in this online slot. The first is unlocked by the paperboy symbol. You are taken to an old-fashioned newsstand (“extra, extra, read all about it!”). There are multiple newspapers on each rack and you pick one from each, receiving whatever secret mystery bonus goes along with it.
The other bonus game is unlocked by the magnifying glass symbol. Here, the player is at the detective’s desk, searching for clues in the case. For each clue you find, you get a bonus. If you find a fingerprint before the phone rings, you are given a series of mug shots and have to pick the correct photo. A correct choice wins a prize.
I don’t normally get excited about slots (I’m more of a table game person), but because of my affinity for old detective movies, this online slot struck a positive note with me. If you’re into film noire or detective stories, I suggest checking out Private Eye at Roxy Palace Casino.
