The National Gambling Board of South Africa is visiting Antigua until the 14th of this month with the goal of establishing regulation for online gambling as a means of income for the South African government.
According to a press release, the NGB is currently in Antigua visiting the Division of Gaming within the Financial Services Regulatory Commission (FSRC). “The NGB as a member of the International Association of Gaming Regulators recognizes the FSRC, Division of Gaming of Antigua and Barbuda as a leader in remote gaming regulation, and therefore NGB has chosen to understudy their detailed policy and regulatory framework to strengthen before implementation our legislation that sees to legalize and regulate online gambling.” said Mmathebe Moja, acting CEO and Deputy Chairman for the NGB.
During their visit, the NGB will be privy to presentations aimed at a broad range of regulatory, licensing and supervisory policies. This includes meetings with Minister of Finance Harold Lovell, the FSRC Board of Directors and key government agencies and online gaming operators.
Althea Crick is the FSRC Chairperson and had this to say, “I am particularly heartened by the selection of the jurisdiction by the NGB as it underscores the confidence placed by the international community on our regulatory and supervisory machinery, it also is a demonstration of the inter-connectivity of the global regulatory regime, sharing and working together to achieve and sustain international best practices.”
When all is said and done, the NGB hopes to have a solid understanding of the way online gaming and interactive wagering is regulated. Antigua and Barbuda view this week as an excellent opportunity to boost its status as a shining example of the proper regulation of online gaming.
