Online Casinos Giving to Japan Relief

In the aftermath of the devastating 8.9 scale earthquake and subsequent tsunami in Japan, many people have opened their hearts, and just as importantly, their wallets, to the Land of the Rising Sun. Individuals and corporations are chipping in to do what is right and help in any way that they can. That includes the online gambling community. Countless online poker players have donated to the cause and undoubtedly, executives and owners of online casinos have done the same, even if it’s not publicized. In fact, I think charitable giving shouldn’t necessarily be publicized. Your act of kindness should be its own reward, not the positive publicity you’ll get.

Having said that, there are a couple charity tournaments at online casinos that I want to clue you in on. They were designed to let players chip in and give to a cause by doing something they already like to do – play casino games.

The first was a charity by Jackpot City Casino, with held a “Help Japan” tournament. The tournament ended on March 20 and the money generated has not yet been reported, but 100% of the proceeds in a charity tournament went to benefit local charities in Japan. That was a great deal, but unfortunately no Americans could participate because Jackpot City is a Microgaming casino, which does not allow American customers.

A current charity tournament is going on at members of the Hambledon New Venture Group, which includes Go Casino and Online Vegas Casino. This casino ends Friday, March 25 at 10:00 PM, so there is not much time remaining. Here’s how it works, though. They are running the Tsunami Relief Pot Percentage Tournament. Participants pay a $1 entry fee and receive $125 in credits with which to play. The proceeds from the tournament will go to humanitarian relief in Japan. If you have to pick a casino tournament to play in today, I can’t think of a better one than this.
