Caribbean Poker, also known as
Caribbean Stud Poker, is a
game traditionally found in
casinos and is very similar to
the basic game of five card
stud poker. However, the main
difference between Caribbean
Poker and traditional poker
games is that you play against
the house instead of other
people. Many like the idea of
simply playing against the
house as they then don’t have
to interact with other
players, nor do they have to
worry about bluffing for there
is none of that involved.
However, others prefer
standard poker over Caribbean
Poker for two main reasons.

bluffing and other forms of
deception the player is often
able to win more as they have
more control over the outcome
of the game. Secondly, and
perhaps more importantly, as
with any other man vs. house
type games, the long term
outlook of winning Caribbean
Poker to any real substance is

Playing Caribbean
Poker is much like standard
poker in that each player
places on the table his ante,
or a forced bet that is agreed
upon before the game. Once
they are down, the dealer
announces “no more bets” and
each player gets five cards.
The cards are dealt face down,
and the dealer is the first to
look at his cards. He turns
over one card and then pushes
the cards towards the players,
which is when they can look at
them. They cannot discuss what
they have with the other
players, nor can they look at
what the other players have
received.
They then
choose to play the cards they
have, or fold and leave that
round of the game, thus
forfeiting their ante. If they
choose to play, they put twice
the amount of their ante in
the bet box. Once everyone has
made their decision, the
dealer shows his cards. The
dealer can only play with an
ace/king or higher, and goes
around the table comparing his
cards to the other players –
right to left. Those that have
a hand that beats the dealer’s
win.
There are several
rules that must be followed
when playing, and the game
cannot be played if they
aren’t:
1. Players
cannot hold or wager on
multiple hands, there is only
one hand per player played at
a time.
2. If the player
chooses Progressive Payout,
they have to make sure that
their $1 wager is in the slot
and that the “Indicator Light”
is ON.
3. Players may not
talk to each other regarding
their hands, nor may they
speak to the dealer about it.
If you do, you will forfeit
your hand and your wagers.
4. If for some reason when the
cards are dealt out a player
receives the wrong number of
cards that hand is a “push” or
“dead hand” for that player
only. The others will finish
the round and the player in
question may join in when
cards are dealt again.
5.
Any decision that the dealer
or casino supervisor makes in
relation to the game of
Caribbean Poker is final.
6. If the dealer is dealt only
four cards during a five card
hand, they may take one more
card. However, any other type
of misdeal and all hands end
in a “dead hand” for all
players and the cards are
turned back in. They will then
be reshuffled and dealt again.
7. If one of the hole cards is
exposed before the dealer
announces “No More Bets” then
all hands will be voided, and
turned back in.
8. Each
player must keep their cards
in full view of the dealer at
all times; they may not leave
the table. One each player has
looked at their cards, they
are to place them face down on
the table and not touch them
again.
Depending on the
hand you have when playing,
the payouts are fairly simple.
If the player beats the
dealer, the player will
receive 1:1 on their ante,
with a maximum bet of $5,000.
Otherwise the payouts are as
follows:
Royal Flush
100:1
Straight Flush 50:1
Four of a Kind 20:1
Full
House 7:1
Flush 5:1
Straight 4:1
Three of a
Kind 3:1
Two Pair 2:1
One Pair or Less 1:1
However, it does not matter
what any player has if the
dealer does not have at least
an ace or a king all wagers
are void and they get even
money on their ante only.
Plus, to make it even more
exciting, in Caribbean Poker
you can bet on your hand and
win the progressive. Player
drop in $1 in the chip
acceptor and if they have a
flush or higher they win no
mater what the outcome of
their table bets.
In
Macau, that bet is $20
HKD/MOP. The payouts are paid
depending on the amount on the
meter when it is their turn to
be paid. If more than one
player has it, then they share
equally the amount shown on
the meter.
Now in the
UK, Caribbean Stud varies
slightly as not everyone
offers the jackpot prize nor
do they call it by the same
name. Caribbean Stud Poker is
referred to as “Casino Stud
Poker” or “Casino Five Card
Stud Poker.” The rules are
similar but the maximum bet is
generally £100 on the ante and
£200 on the raise. Plus all
payouts are paid on the raise,
meaning the maximum payout can
potentially be £10,000. Also,
they do not have the chip
dropper system; instead they
place the chip on a small
plastic circle that lights up.
