UK & Ireland Poker Tour Rules

Thursday, November 5th, 2009

It seems that every day or so a new and totally awesome competition is being organized at one of the many online casinos and poker rooms on the market. One of the most exciting upcoming online casino events is being coordinated by the good people behind the scenes at PokerStars.com. This time around they have set up a spectacular event in the form of their inaugural United Kingdom and Ireland Poker Tour. While the acronym is kind of a jumble (UKIPT), the premise for this incredible casino and poker event is going to knock the socks off of everyone who decided to become involved.

Many online casinos have had some recent success, especially over the course of the summer, with the different tournaments and activities they have hosted, but PokerStars is truly breaking out the big guns with this event. It just doesn’t get much better than this. The festivities are supposed to be kicking off in the very near future over in Galway and players from all over the region will be on hand to go for the glory and try their luck in this sensational and super intense and potentially highly profitable competition.

The tour will be making stops in Scotland, England and Ireland and the final events for this will happen about the same time as the seventh season of the European Poker Tour London event. That is slated to take place at the Metropole Hotel for anyone out there who is interested in the smaller details. This will be a great opportunity for younger players to come out and show what they’ve got.

PokerStars Urges Players To Petition

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

The folks behind the scenes at PokerStars.net have come out with a sensational new campaign effort to show their support for online casinos and poker gaming within the United States. This is in conjunction with the movement that the Poker Players Alliance has tried to wage in response to the stripping of rights of innocent citizens in the name of curbing activity at online casino and poker gambling sites within America. The Poker Players Alliance is not taking this situation lying down and the people from PokerStars.net are giving their players a chance to sign their name to a special petition that will also, incidentally, earn them a spot at a sweet free-roll tournament if they play their cards right.

How it works is that PokerStars will end up hooking any interested player up with free entry into one of their fabulous free-roll casino tournaments if they commit to signing the petition beteen the 27th of June and the 25th of July. The petition is a way of showing support for the legalization, licensing and regulation of online casinos within America.

It is still early in the fight to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and everyone who is in some way or another invested in the magic and wonder that happens at internet casinos in the United States should take part in this effort to improve the situation for all concerned parties. The petition is going to end up being present to President Barack Obama on the 22nd of July and you better believe that everyone will have their fingers crossed that the president takes heed with what the petition has to say.

PokerStars Has Many Winners

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

When an online casino player named Vikidin was able to walk away with the top prize at the most recent $1.5 million guarantee Sunday tournament, it caused quite a stir. This competition , held at PokerStars.com, is one of the top draws for fans of online casinos and poker rooms this season. This time the energy among the contestants was fierce. With a mere eight players vying for glory at the final table event, one of the top front-runners appeared to be well positioned to take the whole tournament but then he went bust, leaving the door wide open for the winning player. The winning casino player managed to score a respectable $220,000 for his first-place win. That sure is a decent amount of money to walk away with in this day and age.

The former front-runner of the event wound up finishing in ninth place and left with only $11,625. Compared to what the final winner took home, that had to have stung a bit. The winner, Vikidin was able to catch a few pocket aces at just the right moment and one by one began giving his competitors the boot.

Still, the pool was so impressive going into this event with the amount of money on the line to be divided up among all of the winners that even the players from online casinos and poker rooms that finished in sixth or fifth place left with a decent chunk of cash under their arms. The fifth place casino gamer took a cool $61,500 and the sixth place finisher was able to leave the scene with $46,500. Neither of those prize packages would be something that I would be able to turn down so they had to feel pretty good about their performances.

PokerStars Adds 2 More Players To Their Team

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

Out of all the online casinos and poker rooms in the business these days, there is perhaps no other site that considers itself to be more fortunate that PokerStars.com. That is especially true these days since they were able to add Ivan Demidov and Peter Eastgate to their sponsored team of poker players. For online casino fans everywhere, the name Peter Eastgate should ring a bell since he was the winner of last year’s World Series of Poker. Demidov was the runner-up in that final contest and to have both of these highly successful players be a part of their team heading into this year’s competition is truly a feather in the cap for the people at PokerStars.

Some other new additions to the team are well known in the world of online casinos. They include Leo Fernandez and Maria Mayrinck. Both of these players hail from South America and together they bring a power-packed punch that is sure to serve as a valuable asset to the already formidable team. They are going to be a part of every major performance that the PokerStars team participtes in.

That will include a variety of different land-based casino contests. Mayrinck, who comes from Brazil, has worked in the past as a scriptwrite for television. She also has a degree in sociology. All along though, this player has had a special love for the game of poker and here it seems that she finally has scored an amazing opportunity to showcase her impressive talents on an international level. In addition Mayrinck has a special blog she set up where she covers different live events in the casino circuit as a member of PokerStars.com’s team of bloggers.

PokerStars Beats Their Own Record For Tournament Size

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009

PokerStars finished out the year of 2008 with quite a send-off. On Sunday, the 28th of December, they threw everything they had towards a thrilling – and record-breaking – online poker tournament. All told, the popular online poker room had more than 35,000 individuals choose to participate in their big end of the year event.

Of course, PokerStars wasn’t competing against anybody else in particular in order to break the record. They only would have found their own name in the record books under this particular entry. The previous Guiness World Record holder was a special Sunday Hundred Grand tournament that PokerStars held wayback in July of 2007. Back then they took the lead in the record race with a measily 20,000 participants.

The buy-in event was particularly lucrative since PokerStars added an additional $150,000 to the $10 plus $1 event. So altogether the prize pool was a grand total of an impressive $500,000 guaranteed. It is hard to beat those kind of numbers. About 8,750 players were able to get their hands on some of the money. When all was said and done, a player who goes by “Stan34powa beat out the other 34,999 of his rivals to walk away with some $30,000. That was pretty good considering he only invested $11. Best of all, he now gets to brag forever and ever about how he was the big winner in the biggest life tournament of all time. Avid online poke fans have long looked to PokerStars for delivering some of the best and most enjoyable tournament action to be found anywhere online.

PokerStars Looks To Break World Record For Poker Tournament

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Have you ever racked your brain to try to figure out what sort of stunt you could pull that would get you invited into the fabled pages of the Guinness Book of World Records? The folks over at PokerStars have been consumed with just such a thought and they may have actually found a way. Later on this very month, the popular online poker site will try to se a new world record for the largest field ever for an Internet poker tournament.

The special tournament is scheduled for the 28th of December. It will have a cap of 35,000 players. If they get that high of a number, they will for sure be able to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, right alongside that creepy guy with the obscenely long fingernails. The Isle of Man-licensed website hosted a somewhat similar competition last year around this same time in which about 20,000 different players participated in the event. And it was a record at the time. A player named ‘Lynna1’ scored first prize and was able to walk away with $20,000 in prize money.

The buy-in for the tournament is only $11 and the guarantee for the tournament is an impressive $50,000. As almost 2,000 players have registered so far, the folks at PokerStars are confident that they will have no problem getting in the record-breaking number of participants that they need to break the record. The poker tournament will have as many as 3,500 tables all going at the exact same time. Blinds will move very rapidly thanks to 10-minute Turbo-style increases. The action is will be hot for sure!
