PokerStars Urges Players To Petition

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

The folks behind the scenes at PokerStars.net have come out with a sensational new campaign effort to show their support for online casinos and poker gaming within the United States. This is in conjunction with the movement that the Poker Players Alliance has tried to wage in response to the stripping of rights of innocent citizens in the name of curbing activity at online casino and poker gambling sites within America. The Poker Players Alliance is not taking this situation lying down and the people from PokerStars.net are giving their players a chance to sign their name to a special petition that will also, incidentally, earn them a spot at a sweet free-roll tournament if they play their cards right.

How it works is that PokerStars will end up hooking any interested player up with free entry into one of their fabulous free-roll casino tournaments if they commit to signing the petition beteen the 27th of June and the 25th of July. The petition is a way of showing support for the legalization, licensing and regulation of online casinos within America.

It is still early in the fight to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and everyone who is in some way or another invested in the magic and wonder that happens at internet casinos in the United States should take part in this effort to improve the situation for all concerned parties. The petition is going to end up being present to President Barack Obama on the 22nd of July and you better believe that everyone will have their fingers crossed that the president takes heed with what the petition has to say.

PPA Pushes Message Hard

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009

Who in their right mind doesn’t love an opportunity to get in on some super stellar online casino poker action? Well, the time is right to take advantage of a stupendous deal that one of the top online casinos and poker rooms in the business. PokerStars.com, is supplying their fanatical customers with. It turns out that the casino and poker site has teamed up with the Poker Players Alliance to get their players in on a chance to sign a special petition that could potentially earn them the chance to participate in some awesome $3,500 free-roll tournaments. It really doesn’t get much better than this. These types of casino gaming opportunities only present themselves every so often so the prudent players out there would do best to go for it!

As the backbone of the poker advocacy movement, the Poker Players Alliance is working on making a major push to get the message out during National Poker Week that the rights of poker players everywhere should be protected and supported and valued by lawmakers.

National Poker Week, which this year takes place from the 19th to the 25th of July, is scheduled to be a wonderful opportunity for people from online casinos and poker rooms to come together and share their love for gaming while at the same time showing a unifying presence that demands to be taken seriously by politicians who would ban all forms of gambling within the United States if they could.

The Poker Players Alliance is hoping that casino and poker players will come out and demonstrate that they are in support of the effort to regulate and properly license and legalize online gambling within the United States once and for all.

PPA Upset with PartyGaming Founder’s Guilty Plea

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

The settlement in the case involving the United States Department of Justice and Anurag Dikshit, the co-founder of PartyGaming has disappointed many people and organizations including the Poker Players Alliance (PPA). Las week, Dikshit decided to submit a guilty plea in the Southern District New York for being in violation of the 1961 Wire Act. He has since agreed to pay some $300 million in fines. He has also committed himself to helping out authorities in charge of their ongoing investigation into the violations.

Back in 1997, Dikshit helped to create the highly successful online casino software platform to serve the Gibraltar-based online gaming operator. Dikshit has ever since been considered the largest shareholder in the company, commanding some 28% of all of the company’s stocks.

Officials from PPA, a poker advocacy group based in Washington, DC, have voiced their deep disappointment with the guilty plea that Dikshit submitted. They feel that this development makes the United States official online gambling regulatory policy even more unclear. There has been no precedent set by this situation but it does not bode well for anybody who has any stake in the success of the industry.

Since the original Wire Act was put into effect so long ago and it doesn’t have any mention of the internet which was not yet invented in 1961, this all seems a little absurd. Especially since the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decided that the Wire Act should apply only to Internet wagers that involve sports events or other related contests. Many details of the regulations still contain contradictions. There are many holes that need to be filled in regarding the Wire Act and the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act that was put in place back in 2006.
