PokerStars Looks To Break World Record For Poker Tournament

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

Have you ever racked your brain to try to figure out what sort of stunt you could pull that would get you invited into the fabled pages of the Guinness Book of World Records? The folks over at PokerStars have been consumed with just such a thought and they may have actually found a way. Later on this very month, the popular online poker site will try to se a new world record for the largest field ever for an Internet poker tournament.

The special tournament is scheduled for the 28th of December. It will have a cap of 35,000 players. If they get that high of a number, they will for sure be able to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, right alongside that creepy guy with the obscenely long fingernails. The Isle of Man-licensed website hosted a somewhat similar competition last year around this same time in which about 20,000 different players participated in the event. And it was a record at the time. A player named ‘Lynna1’ scored first prize and was able to walk away with $20,000 in prize money.

The buy-in for the tournament is only $11 and the guarantee for the tournament is an impressive $50,000. As almost 2,000 players have registered so far, the folks at PokerStars are confident that they will have no problem getting in the record-breaking number of participants that they need to break the record. The poker tournament will have as many as 3,500 tables all going at the exact same time. Blinds will move very rapidly thanks to 10-minute Turbo-style increases. The action is will be hot for sure!

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Bwin, one of the world’s premiere online gaming operations has finally come up with a winner on PokerIsland. A 32-year-old Canadian man named Ryan Hurst was finally announced as the big winner of the 14-week tournament. Over seven weeks of extremely competitive poker playing, Hurst emerged victorious in the edge-of-your-seat intensity of the final round.

Hurst, a professional poker player described the tournament as a very exciting and somewhat nerve-wracking experience. He said that he was thoroughly challenged by the players who made it in to compete in the final round. They sure were able to give him a run for the money but ultimately he came out ahead when all was said and done.

After a four-hour duel in the final round the 14-week tournament, Hurst finally came out on top during the live broadcast on Bwin’s site. This win earned him a membership on the Bwin poker team and an exciting $100,000 Bwin sponsoring package. Now thanks to his impressive win, Hurst has the opportunity to engage in all of the major live poker events in 2009 like the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker. And he is chomping at the bit at all the awesome poker playing that lies in front of him. He can’t wait to get back in the game and win some more.

A great many people wanted to be where Hurst is right now. A grand total of more than 500,000 eager players tried to make it to PokerIsland through qualifier tournaments that were held daily on Bwin’s site. Winners from those online qualifier rounds of tournaments were treated like Bwin royalty through cruises, bike tours, waterskiiing and golf and surfing classes. You really can’t beat that!
