Amendments Added To Casino Bill

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Just a few short days ago, Rep. Barney Frank finally had his day to be heard in Congress when the house and finances services committee passed Frank’s measure. The proposal that Frank brought to the table involved the regulation and licensing for online casinos in the United States. Although Frank has come up against much intense criticism and obstacles throughout his fight for getting this legislation passed for online casino gambling, now it seems that progress is being made and the momentum is finally on his side.

Many different politicians stepped into introduced several amendments to the original proposal and those were debated by several members of the committee. In the end, several of these amendments that have been proposed to supplement the gambling legislation were added into the mix.

One of the claims by one of the congressmen indicated that there should be a clause specifying that all sports betting including sports betting that takes place at online casinos is still illegal. It’ll be interesting to see how much this particular addition to the proposed piece of legislation will be taken into account when gamblers and sports betting fans go to their favorite online sites and try to play their hearts out and go for the glory.

This bill would effectively repeal all of the efforts set in place by the UIGEA. This comes as a major boost for the future of online casinos and gambling in America. It will be interesting to see how far Frank can progress from this point in time. The action is definitely heating up at this point in time.

Online Casino Bill Gets Hearing

Friday, May 28th, 2010

The future of online casinos could be changing in the very near future for the United States. As Rep. Jim McDermott’s proposal to tax Internet gambling in America finally gets its day for a hearing in the House Ways and Means Committee, the online casino industry sat waiting with baited breath. Although it is still too early to see just how the bill was received by members of Congress, many people are harboring hope against hope that things will be changing for the better in the very near future.

The United States has suffered a great deal in terms of the strict legal ramifications for engaging in Internet casino gambling activity. Many other countries have made a considerable amount of revenue generated through expanding and liberalizing their stance when it comes to Internet gambling. The United States is definitely behind the curve in this respect.

Considering the fact that we are still in the throes of a bleak and seemingly endless economic recession, it is time to think outside the box and look for solutions that are viable and enforceable to help bring us out of this dreary financially troublesome time. We need to fight towards an economic recovery and regulating and taxing online casinos seems like the perfect solution.

More and more it seems, Congress has showed an interest in the potential that lies in licensing and regulating Internet casinos. It’ll be interesting to see if the reaction after this hearing changes the perception that many people hold of online gambling. Hopefully there will be some positive changes put into place in the near future.

Frank Collects 5 More Supporters

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

If you ever had any doubts about Representative Barney Frank’s commitment to the future of online casinos within the United States, the time has long come for you to throw those negative thoughts right out the window. Frank has made some major and crucial headway in gaining more and more support for the online casino regulation bill he proposed a couple of months ago. The bill, HR 2267, is aimed at getting the internet casinos of America properly licensed and regulated so that the industry can be a support to the nation’s struggling economy.

Of course, not everyone has such positive feelings about online casinos and the gambling industry in general. Frank recently gained the support of a remarkable five more members of Congress. This level of progress that he has made is truly remarkable given all that the Congress has on their plates right now with the economy in the toilet, the problems in Iraq and Afghanistan, global warming…the list just goes on and on. But there is hope now that he has amassed 47 different politicians coming from both sides of the aisle to lend their support on this bipartisan cause.

The bill may be pushed all the way back to sometime during the month of September but that is too be expected since so much else is going on. But casino gamers everywhere should remain hopefully and cautiously optimistic that good things will indeed eventually come to those who wait. Voters who happen to love internet casino gaming should also be sure to continue to write letters and emails to their representatives and let them know that this issue is important to you.
