UIGEA Finally Gets Implemented

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

First long as it has existed in the minds of legislators in the United States government, the UIGEA has been a bane to the existence of online casinos and operators and players alike. Now this terrible and highly ineffective and unenforceable law has finally gone into effect. Its main aim is to prohibit financial institutions like banks and credit card companies from transferring funds to online casino and poker operations. This legislation has had a hot highly controversial history so far. It was past all the way back in 2006 and it has been the topic of much debate in chat rooms and Congressional hearings for quite some time.

One of the most controversial aspects about this particular piece of legislation that aims to curb activity at online casinos is that it places all of the responsibility and accountability on banks. Banks are supposed to be the ones in charge of recognizing where the payments are going and they will be sanctioned if they are found to be out of compliance with how the legislation is set up.

No person engaged in the business of betting or wagering should knowingly except unlawful Internet gambling credit in any form as set forth in federal regulation. For Internet casino gamblers and America, this definitely comes as quite a downer, but there is hope for the future. Several different Congressional representatives have come forward with alternative solutions in the form of promising legislation that aims to legalize and regulate and license and tax Internet casinos in the United States.

Poker Time Says No To U.S. Players

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

While it may seem like a rather random development too many insiders within the industry of online casinos, many people were not shocked when Poker Time decided to close down their doors when it comes to accepting the players who happen to reside within the United States. The online casino, licensed through Malta, indicated that they came to this difficult decision after the recent implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act otherwise known as the UIGEA.

This is a development that American casino gamblers are very familiar with since it has happened many, many times. Since the poker time is powered by Microgaming’s high-quality and incredibly respected software, this really shouldn’t be too big of a shock for many people who’ve been following the ups and downs and the highs and lows for American players.

But for players who happen to live within the United States, all hope is not lost. There are still many online casinos that are happy to accept and welcome with open arms of American players no matter what the legal ramifications may be.

As the United States government moves closer and closer to coming to a solution in terms of possibly repealing of the UIGEA and a docking legislation that will serve to regulate and license and legalize Internet casino operations, there are many reasons to be opt cautiously optimistic at this point in time. Things are coming along at an even more rapid pace when it comes to individual state by state levels. Many countries and states such as New Jersey are making big strides in terms of getting legislation through Congress.

Potential $ In U.S. Online Casinos

Monday, May 24th, 2010

While many people have complained about the ongoing and seemingly interminable legislation process that has been going on in regard to the future of online casinos within the United States, there is some new research studies that have indicated some extreme potential in this particular aspect of our society. It seems that huge quantities of cash could be generated if the online casino policies and America were to be revamped and reconsidered.

The new research study indicates that it nearly 32,000 jobs and as much as $57.5 billion worth of tax revenue could be generated if Internet casinos were legalized and regulated and taxed in America. Keep in mind that these figures are estimated to for a five-year period of time. If things go the way that Representatives Jim McDermott and Barney Frank have been intending, it could open up a whole new world of economic recovery for the United States.

Since we are still drifting miserably in this seemingly endless and her thick economic recession, it’s time to think outside the box and looked toward innovative and cutting edge solutions. To ride out this financially troublesome time, regulating and legalizing online casinos and sounds like the perfect solution. Everyone is waiting to see which way it presents Obama’s administration will go when it comes to the future of Internet gambling.

With new research findings like this being made public knowledge, more and more pressure will hopefully be applied to get the ball rolling in this particular direction since it seems like a win-win scenario for everyone who has a vested interest in America may can progress and be able to climb out of this dreary financial era.

Frank Grabs 63rd Signature

Sunday, November 22nd, 2009

Out of anyone who has an invested interest in the future of online casinos, I would not want to be the one to tell Representative Barney Frank that all of his elaborate and tireless efforts have been for naught. And that inevitability is just a little bit further from reality. News came in recently that Frank was able to snag one more highly important signature for his online casino gambling legislation that aims to revamp the regulatory and licensing limitations in America. The 63rd co-sponsor of Frank’s now infamous bill is the 9th district Representative Anthony Weiner of New York. With Weiner on board, that makes Frank’s list of supporters even stronger.

While many have now been predicting that the situation involving the future for online casinos will be pushed back to sometimes in the early months of 2010, that does not mean that Frank has stopped in his efforts to keep this particular issue at the forefront of the political discussion. And at a time when the economy is in the toilet, health care reform is chalked up as just another endless fiasco and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq rage on, this is an increasingly challenging feat to accomplish.

Frank seems to have not lost any personal momentum however, and this is a very good thing. The internet casino industry needs his commitment to advocacy if this thing is truly going to make the progress that it needs to make. Everyone has admitted that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act has been a resounding disaster so we need something logical and viable to put in its place.

Lawyer Claims Casino Bill Won’t Progress

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Sometimes it is all about how much you are able to risk when you go to throw down in search of glory at online casinos. Sometimes those riskier decisions can bite you in the butt and leave you reeling from regret. But other times it is the fast and confident approach that, if you can time it right, can deliver some impressive online casino wins that will make you the absolute envy of all of your homies. But for the casino gambling industry in the United States, the odds of having everything in relation to regulations and taxation policies are not fairing too incredibly well these days.

One highly respected lawyer from Las Vegas has indicated that while the industry of online casinos in America has admitted that this fight is indeed an uphill battle, it is much more of a long shot at this point than most people are willing to acknowledge. Tony Cabot, a lawyer who specializes in internet casino gambling law says that the odds of getting the currently proposed regulation legislation passed all the way through Congress is a pipe dream. For people like Representative Barney Frank who have been working tirelessly to make this piece of legislation gather the support it needs to make it through the process, this news is anything but welcome.

There are a number of different compelling reasons why Cabot stated that this deal most likely will not go down any time in the near future. The bill right now has amassed the support of some fifty different politicians who are coming to show their support from both sides of the aisle but certain political considerations make this situation a rather tragic and hopeless scenario.

Online Casinos To Fund Health Care?

Monday, October 5th, 2009

There has been a powerful new connection made recently between the funding of American health care and the regulatory practices for online casinos in the United States. A senator named Ron Wyden from Oregon has gone so far as to propose that the revenue to be generated by the taxation of online casino gambling sites in American would be the perfect place for funds to go toward covering the intense costs of the health care program that has been proposed. This seems like an excellent idea to me. For the past many months, the discussion on health care has been stagnating and it seems like we are not getting anywhere.

And now it is super exciting to think that we could actually approach some sort of perfect solution by incorporating the revenue to be gained through the legalization and the taxation of online casinos. If the taxes collected in this manner were earmarked for health care coverage, that would help America out a lot in the long haul. This money could be put towards increasing the subsidies that would go toward supplying low-income people with health care coverage as part of the America’s Healthy Future Act.

If it is indeed true that, as the people from PricewaterhouseCoopers found in a study, that internet casinos in America could generate as much as $62 billion over the course of the coming decade or so, then this seems like it could be a viable solution to a long-standing problem in our nation. This could be a game-changer for many people and society would look at internet casino gambling in an entirely different light.

Frank’s Bill Pushed Back Further

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

No one who has been working alongside Representative Barney Frank would want for his efforts to regulate and license online casinos in the United States to be put off any longer, but that may be the reality we are looking at these days. With the horrifically bleak domestic and internation economic recessions and the health care drama and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the work of Frank to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and to promote the case for legal online casino sites in America does not rank high enough on the totem pole to warrant front-burner status.

Instead, unfortunately, Frank’s proposal may not be glanced at by the people in power until as late as sometime early next year. That does not bode well for the eager casino players and operators who have been poised and ready to take advantage of a bustling market in America.

Since the UIGEA has made it incredibly rough going for fans of online casinos who happen to live in the United States, many operators and software developers have pulled out of the American market altogether or do not allow any of their casino operations to accept American players. Thus it has been a difficult road for most American casino gamblers. The postponements have become a sort of routine occurrence for the cause that is so close to Frank’s heart.

While it is an important issue that needs to be addressed in a speedy manner, it does not warrant the same expediency and attention that other big button issues such as health care does. Awhile back, everyone was saying that prospects looked strong for the internet casino gambling legislation to be more closely examined sometime later on this coming fall, but now it seems that the date will be pushed ever further back.

Casinos Fund Lobby Effort In U.S.

Friday, August 21st, 2009

It seems that everyone from the business of online casinos the world over is there watching and waiting in the wings to see how the legal battle for internet gambling in the United States ends up unfolding. Many different online casino operators are actually going so far as to hire lobbyists to push for influential congressmen and women to support the reform efforts that Representative Barney Frank has been staging.

His proposed bill would seek to regulate and license online casinos within America and there is a whole lot of potential for an intense amount of profit to come out of this decision for many different concerned parties. Online casino sites have suffered under the woes of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

And now as the United States sits on the brink of actually obtaining some semblance of logical and coherent and effective internet gambling legislation, everyone is angling in a preemptive way to get their piece of the pie when the time comes. People are investing an obscene amount of money into the effort to push this bill successfully through Congress.

One payment processing company, UC Group has put down an estimated $5.23 million worth of lobbying efforts to make it happen. Everyone has a lot at stake depending upon how this comes out in the end. Some operations like PartyGaming and Sportingbet have put down a considerable quantity of funds to help move this effort forward. It is too early to really tell how well it is working, but something definitive should be evident in the near future once the bill gets examined in more detail by members of Congress.

WTO Sides Against U.S. On Trade Laws

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Since the World Trade Organization has found that the United States government did in face infringe on the free trade rights of Antigua, there are some companies in Antigua that have indicated that they have no need to abide by the copyright laws that have been put in place by the U.S. government.

Thai is all thanks to a decision that the World Trade Organization made. The blocking of online casinos in the American market of players is still a big, heated issue for many people in many regions of the world. Many online casino operators are not taking the position that the United States has stood by, in upholding the horrible Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act lying down.

One company dedicated to serving people who love to play games at online casinos, Zookz has thrown off the shackles of trying to bend and adhere to what the United States government wants companies to do. Zookz has carved out quite a niche for itself by delivering the best of the best in movie and music downloads which they are able to collect a monthly membership fee from their loyal customers.

Since internet casino gambling sites such as those based out of places like Antigua are not allowed to operate their business in the United States and this denial from the American gaming market is in direct violation of the free trade rights that have previously been established by the World Trade Organization. Hopefully this situation will see some improvement if Barney Frank is able to find success with the bill that he has brought before Congress that will push for the licensing and regulation of internet gambling sites in America.
