Revenue Decline Continues In Nevada

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Although it may seem like the United States is finally heading toward some sort of viable and long-term financial recovery, things have not been progressing at such an impressive level in the state of Nevada. Most recently the gaming control Board of Nevada released gambling revenues for the month of June that indicated a very bleak and depressing decline in revenue to the tune of 6.6%. While this decline may not seem too substantial, this is on top of a very challenging three consecutive years in which the revenues have been on a sharp downward spiral.

Since the state of Nevada relies heavily on gambling revenues for its economy, this comes as a very big blow. The gambling revenue helps boost up the tax collections. But most recently, for the month of June, those totals were just under 43 million. That is down additional 5.9% compared with the same exact. During last year in 2009. Many people point to the increasing competition that online casinos pose for the land-based gambling and gambling rich states such as Nevada. Online casino action is much more flexible and accessible for great many people.

Overall, however, the main reason for the decline in revenue is not directly tied to the increased level of competition posed by online casinos but more due to the bleak and seemingly endless economic recession that we are still in the middle of the. When everything is totally up, casino revenues make up approximately 1/3 of Nevada state general fund.

The decline in revenue in this particular area of their economy indicates the lasting effect of this terrible financial time that we are still right in the middle of. Nevada is one of the states with the highest rate of foreclosures and bankruptcies across the entire nation of America. Unemployment rates are also skyrocketing. Hopefully, the casino business in Las Vegas and Reno and elsewhere in the state of Nevada will be able to pick up sometime in the near future.

Casino Operators Prep For Changes

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

Things are really heating up in the state of Nevada when it comes to laws governing online casinos and land based casinos. It seems that the Nevada gaming control Board is telling the people who hold state licenses to be cautious as they operate online casinos. If anyone who holds state licenses tries to dabble in online casino gambling projects, bad things could come their way. Many state license holders have been advised against getting into any sort of business that could tie them to Internet casino operations. So far there’ve been several instances of unlicensed online gambling sites forging relationships with state license holders and these actions are considered out of compliance with the Nevada gaming control act.

Although the industry of online casinos has made huge strides, weekly, within the United States things are definitely not so rosy and wonderful. While some land-based casino gambling powerhouses such as Harrah’s entertainment have crossed over into the realm of Internet casino gambling, they are ahead of the curve.

Apparently, many other land-based casino companies are thought to be in negotiations to partner up with some well-established Internet casino operations as soon as the market for Internet gambling within the United States gets opened up and legal. But that day is still not here. Many people are ready and waiting and merely anticipating the opening and liberalizing of a licensed, regulated and legal online gambling market in America but that day is not yet here. Consequences could be considerably rough for people and companies who choose to jump the gun and get ahead of the law in this regard.
