Harrahs Teams With 888 For Online

Friday, September 25th, 2009

It is one thing to make a big plunge into a swimming pool, but it is an entirely more involved scenario when a land-based casino company decided to make the move into the world of online casinos. That is precisely the direction that the wildly successful land-based casino giant Harrah’s Entertainment has decided to do. The company has managed to carve out an impressive niche in Las Vegas, but that is no longer enough for the ambitious casino operation. They are looking to expand into the next frontier of the gambling industry and that move inevitably led them into the online casino realm.

Now things are getting very exciting for this soon-to-be big time mover and shaker among online casinos because they have chosen to team up with the 888 gambling group. Harrah’s may not have much experience in regard to how everything works with internet casinos, but with 888 at their side, it is almost a given that the company will find nothing but sure success in the road ahead. They even went so far as to hire a seasoned industry operative (an exPartyPoker CEO) to help run their interactive entertainment efforts.

That addition happened earlier this past summer. From then until now, the murmurings from the Harrah’s people have been relatively minor and rare, but things are really starting to turn the corner and heat up. 888 is going to be right there working alongside the people from Harrah’s as they begin to establish a foothold and develop projects such as Caesars Palace and the World Series of Poker. These are two major brands that are going to do remarkably well online.

Darvin The Favored WSOP Player

Friday, August 14th, 2009

While many people have already laid down a considerable chunk of cash in bets on who the final winner of this year’s World Series of Poker will be, some people have held back, saying that it is not wise to count your chickens before they hatch. Well, most people are intent to belong to the other school of thought and everybody who attends this school has got some serious money placed down on amateur player Darvin Moon taking home to top prize once November rolls around.

This is not the way anyone from the world of online casinos thought the competition would go. Everyone was eager to predict that one of the well-known professional players such as Phil Ivey would walk away as the big winner of the casino event. There was a ton of speculation across the board among different online casino sites, but this Las Vegas gambling competition has surprised a great many people so far and the surprises may just keep coming as the main event draws nearer.

Fans of online casinos have been watching all summer long as the wonders and thrills of the World Series of Poker have played out in the heart of Las Vegas. This is arguably the biggest casino gambling event of the entire year and no one who has any interest in the gambling industry would willingly want to sit it out.

At a variety of sports books and different betting sites, internet casino players have come on in droves to put money down on who they think will be the big top finisher when the dust settles. Not everyone is so keen on what other are calling the inevitable win by Darvin Moon. Some are putting their money on the man Buchanan who has been skilled enough so far in this competition to be in the second place position heading into the final main event.

Moon Now Favored To Win WSOP

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

It seems that the speculation in Las Vegas is reaching huge booming levels thanks to the performance of a few key players who are going for glory in the World Series of Poker competition in the heart of Las Vegas.

Right now, word on the street and the word at many online casinos and other gambling sites is that an amateur poker player named Darvin Moon is now the fan favorite to take the big prize. That will all be determined later on this fall during the month of November. That is when all eyes from the online casino and professional poker playing world will be glued to the comings and goings in Las Vegas. Casino gambling doesn’t seem to get much hotter or more highly anticipated than this.

This time around the action has really been shaken up. While fans watching the events take place from their favorite online casinos and televised gambling action had their sights originally pinned on the lapel of professional poker player hot shot Phil Ivey, that is no longer the case. It appears that Darvin Moon has come out of nowhere and is now expected by most of the reputable bookmakers in the business to be the favored casino poker player to take home the grand prize in the main event.

Who knows if this particular session of speculation could actually spell the future or if it is just another case of leaping to conclusions in a hasty manner. Moon works as a logger and he is originally from Oakland, Maryland. He is currently in the lead right now out of the nine finalists who have still managed to make it this far into the Las Vegas poker competition.

Frank Speaks In Vegas At WSOP

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Everyone who is even remotely invested in the future of online casinos within the United States listened quite intently recently as Representative Barney Frank spoke to poker players and other industry operatives at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. Frank indicated in his address that he is still thoroughly committed to pushing along with his efforts to get his proposed bill that will aim at regulating online casino gambling sites once and for all within America. Of course, Frank has faced considerable uphill challenges on his path along the way up to this point, and he acknowledges that the battle is far from over. For one thing, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is still in existence.

Everyone out there who claims to be a true fan of online casinos in the United States should receive that fact as basically a big slap in the face. It is a slap in the face to anyone who thinks that they should be able to exercise their basic rights in terms of choosing to patron different casino gaming sites no matter where they may live. Frank was invited to participated in the festivities in Las Vegas for the World Series of Poker as a special guest of honor.

But he did mention that there have been a series of delays in terms of getting the bill all the way to the hearing stage because of the recession that is looming over the heads of politicians everywhere in America these days. It is a tricky situation and a bit of a difficult time to get issues that are not among the very top concerns (the economy, the wars, global warming, immigration, etc.) heard in a swift manner. That is just not in the cards right now. No pun intended.

World Series Of Poker Comes To Vegas Soon

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Coming soon to Las Vegas for one of the most highly anticipated casino and poker events of the entire year of 2009 is the World Series of Poker. This year’s contest will consist of many new and incredibly impressive talents in the business of online casinos as well as the more seasoned veterans who have been around since the dawn of time. With that range of competitors this year’s event is shaping up to be one of the most fiercely competitive World Series of Poker contests of all time. With a 22-year-old man from Denmark taking home the top prize from the main event back in 2008, that broke the field wide open for casino players who otherwise would not think themselves quite worthy of throwing their hat into the ring. But now everything has changed and it is anyone’s game.

There are still some key details to the way the competition will progress that have either not yet been determined or not yet been released. As of now the organizers are not sure when the final table event will take place. Last year, it occurred in November. Either way, this event is going to be one that all the fans of online casinos will be watching with eagerness and excitement. It is not every day that this caliber and mix of competitors comes together to compete for big prizes all under the same roof. It is truly a remarkable event to witness.

It will come down eventually to the casino players who know when to hold ‘em and know when to fold ‘em, as the song goes. It will come down to a series of key decisions that the savvy player will be able to make to take home the top prize. Coming in second or third in this competition feels pretty good, but I can guarantee you that every player out there going for glory will settle for nothing less than first place. After all, it is the World Series of Poker.

Card-Counting Threat Headed For Vegas?

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

There is a controversial piece of technology floating around in the southwestern section of the United States these days. The device in question is an iPhone-based card-counting system. It was discovered in a California Indian casino and many people within the industry serving online casinos and land-based casinos are up in arms at the disastrous potential that such a piece of technology could mean for the business. The online casino and land-based casino gaming regulators in the state of Nevada have gone so far as to issue a general alert about this development and it is making many casino operators very anxious. They want this potentially dangerous issue resolved as soon as possible.

The threat is real and serious as many people feel that this technology could become involved in fraudulent gaming practices in Las Vegas casinos and that could be very damaging for an already vulnerable system in terms of the economic hardships that the strip has been facing of late. Apparently in the United States it is actually not even illegal to count cards. If someone is a “skilled player” they can do all the card counting they want and there is no legal repercussions for doing so. However, inside the city limits of Las Vegas, it is a different story.

The casinos in Vegas can elect not to accept your business if you are caught in the act of counting your cards. Just imagine what this kind of thing would mean for online casinos. How big is the threat? Right now it is hard to say exactly how far this thing could go.

Super Bowl Betting Gives Surge in Las Vegas

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Well, the Super Bowl has come and gone for this year and the numbers of wagers for the highlight of the NFL season are looking to be remarkably low compared to past years for the state of Nevada. For  Super Bowl XLIII, somewhere around $81.5 million was bet with the sports books. That total amount of an 11.5 % decreased from the game held just one year ago. These official numbers were just recently released by the Gaming Control Board. Al told, that as the lowest amount of money wagered on the big game since all the way back in 2004.

Within the state of Nevada, the 176 sports books managed to win $6.7 million. That ends up being a winning percentage of 8.2. Not bad for a day’s work. The Pittsburgh Steelers were highly favored to take home the rings for the day and this helped toe books to rebound successfully since the team was up in the odds by 6 1/2 to 7 points and they won but did not end up covering the spread.

All of the Super Bowl betting endeavors apparently helped give an extra surge to revenue within the city of Las Vegas, particularly at the casinos. The story for online casinos is somewhat different though. After the passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, many online casino betting business are no longer reporting financial results. Nonetheless, it seems as if online casinos fared quite well in regard to Super Bowl betting and affiliate partners have indicated that there were substantial increases from the previous year’s numbers.

Job Seekers Face Huge Competition in Las Vegas

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Despite the excitement and goodwill afoot surrounding the construction of the CityCenter in Las Vegas, the financial hurting that is happening all around the country is not staying away from the city known for sin. Even though the people behind the CityCenter project estimate that the structure will bring in some 12,000 jobs, about 6,000 of those jobs are actually jobs that people already hold so the job-generating notion of the project has been overstated a bit. No matter what, the jobs they are going to be finally able to create will be nothing compared to the job cuts that are happening everywhere.

Officials from the CityCenter project say that they are going to receive somewhere around 150,000 job applications. This is the trend everywhere. With people spending less time in land-based casinos, like those that line the main street in the heart of the city of Las Vegas, it seems more people are playing at online casinos. Even well-established business are having a hard time. And job-seekers are everywhere and they will take anything they can get and leap on every single opportunity that presents itself. When In-N-Out send out word that they would be looking to fill 50 positions at their latest Las Vegas store opening up, about 1,000 different people came to apply for the jobs.

It is harder and harder for everyone. No employer wants to be cutting jobs when times are this hard and many are doing everything they can to try to stave off those kind of moves, but even as a last resort solution to lower funds, it is happening all over the place, even in casinos. With all of this free time on people’s hands, it seems that this situation, however dire it may be for those without work or any job leads, it will be alright for online casinos.
