Land-Based Casinos Lose Out

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

While the older generation in America is still keen on spending their free time gambling at land-based casinos like those in Las Vegas, it seems that the younger and hipper crowd is built for experiencing the glories at online casinos. And many people in the online casino sphere may be a bit surprised to learn that the real future for this industry is going to lie in the hands of young players and minorities. People who are known to pay frequent visits to land-based casinos seem to be dropping off a bit while the nation is gripped in the throes of this horrible, horrible economic collapse. The recession as left practically no business or industry untouched in its wake. One of the industries that has been able to remain relatively unscathed during this trying financial time is the one that brings every gamer joy at online casinos. The trends seem to be pointing towards casino table games and, of course, the ever increasingly popular slots machines. People can’t seem to get enough of playing slots online. And it makes sense. There are huge and unbelievably life-changing amounts waiting to be won at online casino sites and that makes going onto them and giving it the old college try an inevitable and irresistible action.

Many people, on the other hand, have admitted that they just don’t quite have the time to get in their car and drive out to a land-based casino like those in Las Vegas and this is one of the main reasons why business and revenue for those types of casinos has dropped off considerably during the course of the last couple of years. Studies show that folks from the Baby Boomer generation and other senior citizens make up the bulk of fans who patron land-based casinos nowadays. It will be interesting to see what develops as these demographics shift.

Land-Based Casinos Struggle

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

While the industry devoted to online casinos continues to charge ahead with remarkably sustainability and success, land-based casinos across the entire nation are continuing to have an increasingly challenging time in terms of loss of revenue. Compared to the online casino business, these companies are barely scraping by in some cases. They are looking to cut costs and try to get ahead any way they can but that has for the most part proved extremely difficult. And now, instead of making plans to try to expand or develop new business ventures, many of these businesses are just doing whatever they can to simply survive.

It stings a little bit for these land-based casino companies that they would have to struggle through so much as online casinos are thriving regardless of the current economic crisis. It seems that the internet casino business is altogether immune from these trying financial times. The same used to be said about such high class casino gaming destinations as Las Vegas but that is no longer the case. Las Vegas has had several big setbacks in terms of lower rates of visitors to their casinos and hotels on the strip.

Now the question is what can these businesses do to get back in the game and to start making money instead of just losing it. Many casino business are involved in deep brainstorming sessions to try to figure out how they can be more inventive with their approach to delivering their products to their customers. But with everyone operating with much less disposable income, this is a particularly challenging feat to accomplish and there are no easy answers. Some casino owners have had to take the hard route and have been downsizing  their company. But job loss should only be looked at as a last resort, but budget cuts have become more and more common.

Land-based Casinos Going Online?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Can you imagine how the world of land-based and online casinos would be turned on its head of some of the biggest land-based casino companies out of Las Vegas like Harrah’s decided to venture into online gambling? Well, that just may be part of the future of what’s to come since so many land-based casinos in places like Las Vegas are taking such a vicious economic hit. People within the online casino industry have taken note of such developments as the recent agreement that PartyGaming reached with the United States Department of Justice as a positive sign.

This sort of thing may signify that we may be closer than we think to the wonderful world of having a fully functioning legislation system in place for online casinos. Many officials are slowly making the shift and realizing that the best way to go in terms of an industry like this one devoted to casinos is to regulate and tax the industry. Some people have had to learn the hard way that it does not pay to simply ban an activity like this one. The situation must be addressed with much more forethought and wisdom than that. Unfortunately, that was a lesson we all had to take time out and learn the hard way with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act.

That law has been notoriously ineffective and horrific for everyone involved in the Internet casino business. It is time for it to be repealed and for something legitimate and rational to be put in its place. While view PartyGaming’s settlement as some sort of harsh sell-out move, although it will be a costly price to pay to put this ordeal behind the company, it will open the door to many positive things in the future.

Land-Based Casinos Hit Hard By Recession

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

It seems that yet another one of the industries within the United States that is getting hit incredibly hard by these challenging economic times is the land-based casinos. Many of these casinos are edging closer and closer, especially over the course of the last few months, towards defaulting on hefty loans or filing for full-on bankruptcy. The credit squeeze or crunch or whatever you want to call it is coming to call on casinos and different gaming companies across the nation and it seems that at least for the near future, things are only going to get worse. The story for online casinos, however, is a decidedly different one. They continue to thrive despite all of the countless curveballs that have been thrown at them due to the woes associated with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. And this has made for some great gaming for the online casino players out there.

With the most horrific recession washing upon us right now, it seems that more and more gambling aficionados are opting to stay in and play at online casinos from the comfort and privacy of their own home. This makes sense in many ways. They don’t have to pay for gas to drive themselves out the land-based casinos. They don’t have to tip anybody for providing them with food or drinks. And they can play games for hours and hours on end while wearing their crustiest pair of pajamas. This sounds like the perfect solution to me.

While Las Vegas has in the past been able to hold out and remain somewhat immune to poor economic conditions, that is not the case this time around. Powerhouses like the MGM Mirage are taking heavy hits in loss of revenue and these business are having to confront some very tought decisions. MGM, for example, is on the brink of defaulting on some of their substantial loans. A situation like this might prove in the end to be too much to try to recover from.

Online Gambling Industry Stays Strong While Land-Based Casinos Take A Hit

Friday, February 6th, 2009

While the national economy continues to roll around flailing in the ditches, there is one bright spot in the business world and that is when it comes to the success of online casinos. But in actuality, it makes perfect sense that a poor economy would bring more people into the world of gambling, particularly online gambling. Internet gambling is a fun pastime and more than that, it is an escape from the droning mechanism that is daily life for many Americans. But while the online casino business has been built up, at the very same time, the revenue for most land-based traditional casinos has shot down sharply in recent years.

This shift for land-based casinos is easy to understand as well. The casino industry, particularly in traditional big-cit gambling destinations like Las Vegas and Atlantic City has seem a quite a fall from where they found themselves just a few years ago. An example of this shift can be found by comparing the numbers of the industry devoted to online casinos versus traditional gambling venues during the fourth quarter of last year. During that time, online gambling sites saw their player traffic increase by somewhere around 30%. Back in 2007, the player traffic numbers fell by nearly 30%. What this means is that within a span of only one year, there was a nearly 60% turnaround.

Leaving one’s house to visit a land-based casino is becoming an increasingly unsavory option as it comes with all sorts of additional costs like gas money (which is shooting back up) drinks and food and tipping for waiters and dealers and more. It makes sense, in this respect, to just go ahead and stay indoors and get in on some exciting casino gaming right from the comfort of one’s own home.
