Utah Officials Struggle With Gambling Arrests

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Recently the lawmakers within the state of Utah have been coming up empty-handed when they have tried to crack down on what they have perceived to be illegal gambling activities. Try as they might, they haven’t been able to successfully arrest anyone yet. And now, in response to this unrequited pursuit, they are making efforts to make the gambling laws for the state of Utah much more detailed and clear so that they do not make any more mistakes in this area. Just this past week, the authorities within Salt Lake City tried to take down an internet café which they believed was allowing its customers to engage in games of chance on online casinos.

How the system was set up in the Internet café to access games at the online casinos was that the customers could pay to play with a prepaid card and use it at a computer to access their favorite casino games. With the credits they had earned from buying the cards, they could play online casino games till their hearts were fully content.

This system is an example of “fringe” betting that has been taking place at many different locations throughout the state of Utah, much to the dismay of law enforcement officials. Right now the law is unclear as to how it interprets the act of “fringe” betting and lawmakers are hoping to change that with their most recent efforts. They are changing it so that any confusion will be erased. People who love to play casino games should pay attention to the upcoming changes in Utah state law so that they are able to protect themselves if it comes to that.

Officials In Utah Block Fringe Gambling

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

Although the state of Utah has been known to be quite harsh in its stance toward online casinos and any form of online gambling in general, they may be taking a step in a not too surprising direction in the days to come. The government for the state of Utah is considering the possibility of broadening their laws to close out certain existing loopholes that allow online casino operators to offer their customers certain forms of virtual gambling.

This is known in the business as “fringe gambling” and officials in the highest reaches of Utah state government are not going to allow it for very much longer. The way fringe gambling usually works is that punters are offered a prepaid computer card in an Internet café. That gets put in a machine and allows casino gambling games to be accessed. The glitch for this particular scenario is that the card as already been set up in regards to whether it is a winner or not so it is, in the grand scheme of things, just like a lottery ticket. Now the latest move by the Utah government has been to bring about a ill that makes it considerably easier for law enforcement to shut down this kind of establishment.

What this means for the future of online casinos in the state of Utah is still unclear but government officials are doing everything in their power to shut down any form of fringe gambling. Their hopes is that this style of casino gambling will be determined fully illegal under the law.
