Obama’s Team Plans List of Changes

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

With so many people intensely opposed to the unreasonable details of the UIGEA, especially the players and the online casino operators who have the most at stake, there many be light ahead at the end of the tunnel in the near future. Although the Treasury Department is blinding following through with the illogical orders coming from the White House in regard to finalizing the last details for the regulations in order to enact the law, ultimately, these changes will not go into effect any time soon. Go ahead and take a minute to heave a big sigh of relief and take heart in that news.

The team of President-elect Brack Obama has been diligently preparing a long and detailed list of all of the policies and regulations that the Bush adminstration is doing its darndest to put into place in the last few brief months of its term. Their intentions are to work rapidly to reverse any of the regulations that get pushed through in these final days if they are deemed to be “overtly political”. If Obama’s people decide that any of these hastily compiled bits of legislation are not above board, they will be withdrawn promptly.

They are being incredibly thorough in their searching. The list already has more than 200 issues to address, including several very crucial items like stem-cell research and climate change. While some items my take precedent over other items, especially with the economy still facing some of its bleakest hours, the UIGEA will definitely warrant addressing at some point in time.

What a President Obama Would Mean to the Online Gambling Industry

Friday, November 7th, 2008

While the American people voted to elect Barack Obama in what some political pundits are calling a landslide election, the jury is still out on what this particular national development will mean for the online gambling industry.

While vice president-elect Joe Biden’s own son Hunter has worked as a lobbyist for Party Gambling, it may still be too early to call which way an Obama presidency will push the legislation. A chairman for the House Financial Services Committee has reported that Obama’s presidency will have a substantial impact on the industry.

While the Republicans during the Bush administration have made a concerted effort to push through hasty legislation that aims at regulating the industry in drastic ways, the Democrats who will be running majorities in both the Senate and the House will have to work on undoing the damage before anything else can happen.

Many democrats have already been working on legislation that will work, bit by bit toward making online gambling a legal activity. But Republicans, who have seemingly gone out of their way to claim the goal of making online gambling illegal a critical part of its platform, will do everything they can to make that job exceedingly difficult. With all of the other far more important problems facing the nation today, Republicans have come under some scrutiny for focusing their energies on something that should be regarded as more of a periphery issue.

Either way, it will be interesting to see what happens when the democrats take over control of the White House, the Senate and the House in 2009. Obama, who has admitted that he loves the game of poker, has indicated that he would approve a study that searched out concrete ideas on the implications of legalizing online gambling.

Heads of Las Vegas Casino Industry Endorse McCain

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

With the United States presidential election a mere day away from being decided, the casino industry has weighed in on which candidate would be the best choice. In an overwhelming show of support, the trophy goes to John McCain who received thumbs up from three of the largest Las Vegas casino operators. Not only have they pledged support for their chosen candidate with proclamations, they have also backed up their words with substantial sums of money.

Sheldon Adelson of Las Vegas Sands Corp.  and Steve Wynn of Wynn Resorts have conducted impressively successful fundraisers for the Arizona senator. One of these endorsements has been a bit surprising since Wynn is widely known as a longtime Democrat. The rest of his family has been quite dismayed by his decision to support McCain. Meanwhile, his wife has donated money to Senator Barack Obama’s campaign. She reportedly donated somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000 over the course of his length campaign.

Many folks within the gambling industry have been reasonably perplexed by the outpouring of adoration for the Republican candidate since he has been an opponent of sports gambling, going so far as to push for a ban on it. McCain used to hold nothing but contempt for the industry but more recently, he has welcomed them and their campaign contributions with open arms. While the polls are now showing Obama with a substantial lead over McCain, even in many of the swing states, the big wigs in the gambling industry are holding their breath and crossing their fingers, hoping for a last minute comeback.
