Domestic Companies To Benefit From Czech Licensing
Sunday, January 4th, 2009The Finance Ministry of the Czech Republic is on the verge of doling out permits to the top five largest bookmakers in the country. This will enable to companies to get involved in the wonders of online gambling. After a great many years of battles and debates and empty promises, it seems that the situation has turned a corner. Although the government promises to heavily regulate and monitor the industry, companies are moving forward to allow Czech online gambling for the people of the Czech Republic. One of the biggest arguments against this development has been the risk and dangers involved with underage online gambling but the government is aiming to squelch any real threat of that by keeping a very close eye on the industry.
One firm that is up for receiving a license from the Finance Ministry is Fortuna Group. They are behind a huge land-based sportsbetting operation in the Czech Republic. They also dabble in games, telephone betting services ad lotteries. They also have a presence in Croatia, Poland and Slovakia. Plus they serve as the key sponsor for the Sparta Prague football team.
One criticism of the situation is that foreign online gambling companies are permitted to do their business in the country without any controls placed on them. The Czech companies feel that this creates a very unfair situation. Without any legal restriction in place for these companies it is an uphill battle to get a hold on any of the market in the country since outside companies have free reign to operate illegally. Now that the domestic companies will be licensed they will be in position to compete on equal footing with outsider companies.
