Frank’s Bill Finally Heard

Sunday, April 25th, 2010

Rep. Barney Frank has finally been able to have his bill heard by the House financial services committee. This hearing took place on April 16 and from this day forward, there could be major shifts in store for the future of the industry of online casinos in America. Although Barney Frank has been working toward making progress in this particular realm for quite some time, he the focus on his bill has been pushed to the back burner a number of times.

It is easy to understand why this has happened considering the fact that the United States has been battling with its healthcare programs, its ongoing wars in the nations of Afghanistan and Iraq and the horribly dreary economic recession that seems to have no end in sight. But now the time for Frank’s bill to be heard has come about at last.

This could mean some major shifts in the future from line casinos and many politicians and gambling operators throughout the world are taking note of what takes place once this event comes to pass. One of the main things that the bill aims to do is to tear down everything that the UIGEA has been trying to accomplish since it first was brought into effect.

Everyone who has a vested interest in this new bill has been fighting against the UIGEA for quite sometime since it is proven to be highly ineffective and all but impossible to fully execute. Casino gambling fanatics within America are super eager and excited about having their market opened up to them. For so long now it seems that so many doors have been shut to them in terms of Internet gambling and that could change very soon.

Frank Signs On 2 More Sponsors

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Congressman Barney Frank has been working seemingly day and night for months on end to get his proposal for regulation and taxation for online casinos within the United States passed through Congress. Well, he may still have a very difficult road ahead of him but he has been gaining some substantial and important ground in the fight for online casino gambling in America. Just recently he scored another two additional sponsorships of two more members of Congress. This deal took place just within the last week or so and it indicates a lot to be positive about at this point.

While some of the naysayers have gone on and on about how there is no chance in hell that Frank will be able to make progress with the future of online casinos because of all the drama surrounding the government when it comes to addressing the economy, health care and the various wars we are fighting around the world, there is hope yet. Frank has been very conscientious when it comes to bringing in supporters from both sides of the aisle to make this situation a very bipartisan endeavor and that extra attention to detail has been paying off so far.

The total number of sponsors to date is somewhere right around sixty. Frank has been able to gather support for his cause before but the momentum that he has amassed this time around has been truly commendable for a variety of different reasons. It is still too early to tell whether or not he will succeed in his efforts to reconfigure the laws for internet casinos in America but we may see some action in this regard sometime come early 2010. That is what all the casino operators and players are hoping for anyway.

Frank’s Bill Pushed Back Further

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

No one who has been working alongside Representative Barney Frank would want for his efforts to regulate and license online casinos in the United States to be put off any longer, but that may be the reality we are looking at these days. With the horrifically bleak domestic and internation economic recessions and the health care drama and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the work of Frank to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and to promote the case for legal online casino sites in America does not rank high enough on the totem pole to warrant front-burner status.

Instead, unfortunately, Frank’s proposal may not be glanced at by the people in power until as late as sometime early next year. That does not bode well for the eager casino players and operators who have been poised and ready to take advantage of a bustling market in America.

Since the UIGEA has made it incredibly rough going for fans of online casinos who happen to live in the United States, many operators and software developers have pulled out of the American market altogether or do not allow any of their casino operations to accept American players. Thus it has been a difficult road for most American casino gamblers. The postponements have become a sort of routine occurrence for the cause that is so close to Frank’s heart.

While it is an important issue that needs to be addressed in a speedy manner, it does not warrant the same expediency and attention that other big button issues such as health care does. Awhile back, everyone was saying that prospects looked strong for the internet casino gambling legislation to be more closely examined sometime later on this coming fall, but now it seems that the date will be pushed ever further back.

Frank’s Legislation Pushed Back Further

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

No matter how hard Representative Barney Frank tried to get his agenda for reforming the policies in place for online casinos in America, it seems that he keeps being met with setback after setback. While the outlook for his efforts to repeal the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and to regulate and license online casino sites seems to be making substantial progress, all is not yet written. He has managed to garner a considerable amount of support that is coming from both sides of the aisle, but with pressing issues such as the dreary economy and the endless debacle that is health care in America, it seems as though this particular topic is going to remain some time longer on one of the back burners as far as the United States government agenda is concerned.

This does not mean that all hope is lost. Many online casinos and players alike have been following these developments with great focus and attention to detail. Everyone is ready to jump right in and make a whole lot of money as soon as the market gets opened up, but that time is definitely not now. It had been said that we were looking at sometime later on this fall as the time when issues involving internet casino gambling for Americans in America would be addressed, but that is perhaps no longer in the cards.

No matter how hard Frank has worked and how intensely he has pressed to bring the date forward on dealing with this issue, his efforts have for the most part been made in vain. Now murmurings are out and about that this online gambling legislation may not be addressed until sometime later on in 2010. That would be quite crushing to many casino operators and players alike who have been pinning their hopes on a speedy resolution of this situation, but now it seems that they will have to call upon some heightened level of patience to get through this.

Bachus Sees Tidal Shift For Casinos

Friday, June 26th, 2009

There is perhaps no greater foe of the industry devoted to online casinos within the United States than Representative Spencer Bachus. Among Congressman, his efforts to being about pain and misery to online casino operators are extensive and tireless. Now Bachus has come out to say that he sees the tide changing in ways that he not altogether happy with. He admits that the fight against the regulation, legalization and licensing of casino gaming sites may be a losing battle.

One substantial factor in that particular scenario that has held a lot of weight for many people is the ineffectiveness of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. He says the little tricks that the government has tried to pull on innocent people through the guise of the UIGEA are not going to cut it for much longer.

He says that recent attempts to thwart the rights of law-abiding citizens in the name of the UIGEA have been met with staunch and fervent criticism. The fans of online casinos everywhere are hip to the treachery and the wool that is being pulled over their eyes and they will not take it any longer. Now everyone is alert and ready to wage a battle.

Politicians have been doing their best to manipulate the facts and figures to paint a horrible and dangerous picture of the internet casino business within the United States, but more and more, the truth is coming out and the average people are realizing that people like Bachus are spouting outright lies. And now that Representative Barney Frank has brought his latest bill proposal to Congress and gathered support from both sides of the aisle, the game has changed considerably.

Barney Frank Invokes Personal Freedom

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

It seems that the legal battle for the fate of online casinos within the United States cannot stay out of the headlines. The media coverage of the efforts of Congressman Barney Frank along with the intense and immense anti-casino gambling opposition that despises him has been constant and extensive. Recently US News and World Report asked Frank and his arch enemy of sorts, Spencer Bachus to reflect on their differing positions as far as how the online casino business should be treated in America.

Each mover and shaker provided the publication with a written statement that went into serious detail about the various issues associated with the legal aspects of online casinos in the United States. Most of what they submitted was information and assorted facts that most of the public, if they have been following this issue at all, are quite familiar with. But Frank did end up going into greater detail about how this battle for casino gambling access in America can really be viewed in the context of making a case for personal freedom and rights of the individual.

Obviously this sort of tactic relies heavily on the level of patriotism that so many Americans cling to that relate to living in a Democratic society in which people are free to think and act for themselves. He sure has a point! Frank also made sure to emphasize the fact that the previous efforts to deal with online casinos within the United States, the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, was a complete and total disaster and utterly ineffective.

Many people don’t see the economic potential for America that making casino sites properly licensed and regulated and taxed could do for the American financial situation, but Frank is trying to get them to see the light.

Politicians Back Barney Frank’s Bill

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Back in the early days of May, Congressman Barney Frank was finally able to bring his highly anticipated, long awaited bill involving online casinos and regulations for them into Congress. The official title of his bill that he has proposed is the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, And Enforcement Act (HR 2267). This is in no way, shape, or form supposed to ever be confused with that jumbled mass of ridiculousness known as the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. That old, bothersome law is hopefully approaching the date of its repeal since it has not made nay progress in creating a more logical and effective regulation of online casino sites or operators within the United States. So far, a healthy number of congressmen and women have signed on to sponsor the bill in the later days of May. There are several names that have come up as sponsors of this piece of legislation who have already played a vital role in fighting on behalf of online casinos and licensing and regulation issues in the past. Some of the familiar names include Shelley Berkley of Nevada, Joseph Crowley of New York, Bob Filner of California, Steve Rothman of New Jersey and Michael McMahon of New York.

There are a number of other politicians who have also been able to reach across the aisle and lend some bipartisan credibility to this cause and that has let many people who are deeply invested in a positive outcome of this situation to be endlessly hopeful about the prospects of getting this bill passed into a law. Only time will tell if that will be possible but the outlook right now is optimistic.

Gambling Opponents Fight Back

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

While foes of the industry devoted to online casinos are busy speaking out against the efforts of Representative Barney Frank as the government considers his latest legislative offering, everyone is crossing their fingers and holding their breath that things will work out in favor of Internet gambling. It is way to early say anything definitive at this point, and most people remain cautiously optimistic. The anti-gambling activists, however, are as vocal as ever, claiming that this bill will wreck havoc on the vulnerable youth population within the United States since online casino gambling leads to horrible addictions and other life-wasting unmentionable deeds. It is important to point out, however, that gaming experts who follow patterns at online casinos have indicated that the views of people like Spencer Bachus are decidedly ill informed and misguided. Most of the more recent evidence that has been uncovered through studies on casino gambling and addictions has proved his assertions as utter falsities. Nonetheless, he is able to get lots of positive attention from the people who comprise the socially conservative rightwing base that supports him and his lies.

Many people who are already predisposed to have a negative stance on online casino gambling will absorb everything people like Bachus spout simply because it is already in alignment with the views that they hold. Even though there is technology on the market that is set up to protect young people from accessing websites that may be harmful or inappropriate, folks like Bachus shrug those efforts off and say that they are ineffective and unreliable. This is an interesting case to make since there is a company in Canada that has been having tremendous success with being able to block websites so that parents can rest easy that their children are not going to stumble on adult websites.

Congressmen Show Support For Franks Bill

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

While the beginning of the month of May this year brought about some positive action in terms of some good things happening for online casinos and the gambling industry in general for laws within the United States, everything is still hanging in the balance. Everyone who is in one way or another invested in the online casino business has been waiting and watching with eagerness to see what develops. Congressman Barney Frank’s ultimate goal is to find a way to do away with the horrific Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act that was pushed quickly into law in the final days of the Bush administration’s reign of terror. Now Frank’s latest effort that has been proposed to congress, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act (HR2267) is up for examination.Mnay folks in the world of online casinos are quite hopeful about how this particular bill could end up being received. Frank has managed to acquire the support of many folks on both sides of the aisle on this one. That is a whole lot better than he has fared in the past so many casino players and operators across the nation are heartened by this progress that has been made so far.

To date, some 23 different congressmen and women have stepped up and shown their support for the bill. Some of the supporters include Joseph Crowley, Michael McMahon, Bob Filner and Shelley Berkely. As far as Republicans are concerned, a good strong number have climbed on board of the wagon to indicate that they approve of the ideas behind this particular bill. This has great significance for the future of Internet casinos everywhere, but particularly within the United States.

Conservatives Fight Frank’s Efforts

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

While Congressman Barney Frank and his impressive legion of supporters is gearing up to wage a battle that aims to repeal the horribly ineffective e Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act and put in place some logical and successful regulation and taxations of online casinos, the enemies are gearing up to head into battle as well. It seems that such high-brow organizations like Focus on the Family are telling all of the supported who come onto their website to call and write letters to their congressmen in the hopes that they can keep the ridiculously terrible UIGEA in place to protect the United States citizens from all of the social ills that come with giving online casino sites free reign.

The Christian Coalition has also attempted to mobilize its forces to get the word out that anti-gambling opponents are none too pleased with Frank’s most recent efforts. It will be interesting to see who ends up the victor in this battle for the future of online casinos. It reminds me of the Darth Vader and the Dark Side trying to court all of Luke Skywalker’s vulnerabilities in “Star Wars.”

Fans of casinos everywhere have been considerably heartened by the most recent efforts of Barney Frank and they are hopeful that since a more reasonable and rational man has taken over power in the White House, some true pragmatic progress can be made. Still, President Obama has a lot on is plate with several questionable international situations that are ongoing plus the shoddy state of our national economy. But overwhelming evidence has already been introduced that touts online casino gambling as an industry that could bring in billions of dollars in extra revenue to help balance governmental budgets if it is properly regulated and taxed and licensed.
