If you are looking for a fantastic way to ring in the new year and really start off the year 2009 on the right track, you may want to check out what the people who run PartyPoker have up their sleeves. During the month of December, the popular online poker site is giving their faithful players a chance to qualify for three different major live poker events.

Qualifiers are going for it online right now pushing their luck for the Asian Poker Tour in the Philippines, the PartyPoker World Poker Showdown that will take place in the tropical atmosphere of the Dominican Republic and the PartyPoker Irish Poker Championships.

Come 2009, the very first opportunity you will have to participate in a major tournament will be the PartyPoker Irish Poker Championship. It will be held at the Radisson SAS Hotel in the marvelous Galway Bay right during the very first week of January. Some of the major names in poker are expected to compete like Neil Channing and Mike Sexton. Qualifying for that tournament would mean great things, especially if you play your card well enough to walk away with the $5,000 prize package that includes a $2,800 buy-in.

Although it is only in its second year, the Asian Poker Tour has been hugely successful. Players who got in on the action last year gave it glowing five-star reviews. The most recent leg of the tour that took place in Macau was attended by some very big names including Doyle Brunson, John Juanda and Johnny Chan. The package for the Asian Poker Tour is $6,000 and that includes a $2,700 buy-in.
