Microgaming Blocks U.S. Players

Microgaming, a leader in the realm of online casino software providers has made an unfortunate decision in recent weeks. A short while back, Microgaming’s site was reported to be down and many pointed the finger toward the state of Kentucky as the reason for such an occurrence. However, everything has since been cleared up and it turns out that Microgaming is at last shutting down its offerings for customers who reside within the United States.

As one of the frontrunners in the online gambling industry, Microgaming has some extremely popular licensees, some of which include Carmen Media, Fortune Lounge, 32Red and Vegas Partner Lounge. So far it is still uncertain as to whether or not these sites will still be accessible for American citizens.

Way back when this story first began, the reports that were circulating originally indicated that Microgaming’s main plan was to reject the potential players who live in Kentucky. This idea, however, proved extremely difficult. The attempt to block only one state within a country so large has been met with some technical hurdles that have so far proved too high to clear.

Doyle’s Room, the online poker site of the famously successful World Series of Poker winning player Doyle Brunson, is run with Microgaming software. For Doyle’s loyal followers this  news hits hard, especially since the domain restraints have already been delivered to Kentucky.

As many online gambling fans have a number of longtime favorite sites that use Microgaming software to run their games, this development comes as a huge and incredibly disheartening hit. In a time of overwhelming economic hardship, this situation does not bode well for turning things around any time in the near future.
