In many areas of the world, fancy lace-curtain massage parlors have often operated as a front for more scandalous activities such as prostitution. Now, however, in some places such as Malaysia, the thrills of illicit sexual activity are taking a back seat to other endeavors. One of the new trendy, yet illegal activities that is taking place behind closed doors in Malaysia’s massage parlors is, believe it or not, online casino gambling.

Is online gambling really more popular than sex? Apparently the resounding answer is yes in some neighborhoods of Kuantan, one of the biggest urban centers in Malaysia. Business owners have been quick to jump onto this new entrepreneurial bandwagon to take advantage of this intriguing new demand. The Kuantan city council has brought forth a number of threats that they will revoke the business licenses of these shady massage parlors if they are caught operating a brothel or offering online casino gambling in the back.

More and more, to meet a growing demand from an extensive clientele, local stores have been covertly running cybercafes that allow customers to engage in online casino gambling. Apparently people who flock to these risqué businesses are lured in by the tantalizing promise of a rousing game of online poker as much as they are drawn in for the purpose of buying sex. Even with the threat of licenses being cancels, many of these business owners say they will likely press on no matter what because the demand is there and if they don’t meet it, someone else will.
