Las Vegas Mayor Pushes For Mafia Museum
Posted on: January 20th, 2009 1:50 am | By: helenWith the financial woes that have rained down unrelenting throughout the past year in Las Vegas, the loss of revenue has been worrisome for many people. And of course, this shoddy state of his city’s economy has not escaped the attention of the mayor of Las Vegas, Oscar Goodman. In response to the economic slump that has left a lasting mark on his city of sin, he has come up with what he considers to be the ultimate solution. He has recently proposed to use as much as $55 million of the federal stimulus funds to put toward the building of a museum that basically celebrates the contributions that the Mafia has made over the years to the city of Las Vegas.
Apparently, part of this astounding idea even includes a special tribute to the mayor himself who previously spent an entire career working as a defense lawyer. In that position he ended up defending some of the top mob bosses and shady gangsters. Most people have met Goodman’s big bold plan with sneers and scoffs. As a democrat who hails from Philadelphia originally, Goodman has been quite a showman in his position as may of Las Vegas. He has gone so far as to put his face on casino chips and served as the sponsor for the Bombay Sapphire Gin company.
In his career as a defense attorney he represented Fat Herbie Blitzstein and Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal among others. He has told people that his big idea for a Mafia museum is a no-fail venture because the people who are coming to Las Vegas are going to be attracted to such a scandal-heavy site. He said it is a natural step for the city to take at this point in time.
