Illinois State Lottery May Go Online
Posted on: February 21st, 2009 6:58 am | By: helenThe world of online casinos and internet gambling may come to center stage in President Barack Obama’s home state as Illinois makes a move toward having their state lottery be available online. This notion is relatively unheard of and it presents many interesting ideas in a climate that has been pretty harsh toward online casino operators and players alike. This began as an idea that would help increase revenue for the state at a time when the economy is continuing on in its downward spiral and unemployment is rising to dangerous new heights.
This expansion of the state lottery would involve selling the tickets online, but this idea may end up going nowhere if the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act manages to stand in its way. Although this venture has the potential to double the revenue that is normally earned from the state lottery that is run in the traditional way, there are many people that would be opposed to this proposal and several of them are members of our government.
Look at all the strife that is happening over in New Hampshire as they have tried to go forward with a similar plan. Credit card companies have been struggling with customers being able to buy up lottery tickets over the internet and the entire purpose of the UIGEA is to squelch any form of online casino gambling. Online casinos all over the world have suffered from this legislation and now it seems as though the state of Illinois may be the latest victim. If they have any success with this venture, it could be good news to casino players.
